Shamrock Sold

Did you know that Shamrock Taxi and Shamrock Airport Express were sold on 9/11/2008  to Colorado Cab, a company that is owned by Veolia (www.veolia.com) .  Veolia, based in France, owns Supershuttle and Yellow Cab in Denver plus many other transportation companies across America.  Veolia, now the biggest transportation provider in America will continue their aggressive growth.  They will consume and assimilate many small and large local transportation business - I wonder what that will do to local service and to the economy on both a local and national level.

Shamrock was not the best of businesses but as a local private company it provided essential services and worked hard to become an integral part of the Northern Colorado community.  Shamrock Taxi served the communities of Fort Collins, Loveland, Greeley, Longmont and Shamrock Airport Express provided shuttle service to and from DIA.

The question now is, will the new owners invest in Northern Colorado transportation or will they focus on cost reduction, maximizing profits, and take money away from the local economy.   So far their mantra is cost reduction.

Do you have any thoughts or experiences to share about the purchase or the service provided by Yellow Cab and Supershuttle?  Any specific issues or recent experiences, particularly in Northern Colorado?

At least 10 people have been laid off and several have quit since Shamrock was sold.

Veolia is a giant multinational greed driven company who gobble up anything which dares to get in its way. I don't like the monopoly on the transportation industry in Northern Colorado. Such a shame a small local company such as Shamrock is now a distant reminder. I don't know who Veolia thinks its kidding by pretending to be an American company using the banner Super Shuttle and Yellow Cab. This new company has taken away jobs from OUR community, and now several employees are unemployed as a result. Our economy will suffer from this loss of local jobs while France will continue to get fat off the backs of hard working Americans. There will always be casualties in any war, but the amount of people terminated with this takeover is simply ridiculous and was unnecessary.

I have had a lot of negative things to say about Shamrock in the past. However with new management things could only get more frustrated. The Shamrock was already a monopoly along the front range, and their prices were excellerating literally every few months.

I am 100% for any company which can survive in the competition with the new owners'. The competition could provide lower cost of travel between cities on the nothern front range and DIA.

I am really positive in the idea of green technology in eliminating all of the polution that Shamrock has not confronted.

My word's are go for it, and they have my support with the PUC.
